Mercedes has hinted at its long-term Formula 1 future at the unveiling of its 2020 Formula 1 livery for the W11.

Ahead of the launch of the car later this week, a five-year principal partnership deal with INEOS Sports sailing and cycling teams was announced, hinting that the team will stay on in F1 beyond 2020.

The team showed off its new look at the Royal Automobile Club in London, ahead of a private shakedown and actual launch at Silverstone on the 14th.
As part of the reveal, Mercedes also introduced new performance partner, INEOS.

The partnership includes collaborative work in engineering, data analysis and simulation with the formation of a new motor sport division called Mercedes-Benz Applied Science and has been in place since August of 2019.

INEOS joins the team as a principal partner on a five-year deal, a signal of intent from the reigning world champions with rumours swirling that a withdrawal from F1 is on the cards.

“The technological demands of Formula 1 mean we are well-placed to support with advanced technical challenges in specific areas of sailing and cycling, with a particular focus on aerodynamics and the manufacturing capability around key components,” explained Mercedes Team Principal, Toto Wolff.

“When Sir Jim Ratcliffe approached us with the concept of bringing together the three organisations, all with proven track records of excellence and high ambitions for the future, we immediately saw the opportunity to grow and diversify our business – and to learn from some of the most successful teams in world sport.

“We are very excited about this agreement’s potential in the months and years ahead.”

The full Mercedes launch will take place on February 14, with the first winter test beginning at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on the 19th.
