IMSA half-century and Brumos Racing success marked for this weekend’s Daytona 24 Hours

Porsches in Brumos Racing colours for Daytona 24 Hours unveiled

Porsche has unveiled the latest of its retro liveries to pay tribute to its glorious past in racing. At this weekend’s Daytona 24 Hours two 911s will run in blue and red sweeping stripes as made famous by legendary Brumos Racing.

The livery for the factory-run no911 and 912 cars is to pay tribute to the Brumos team as well as is to mark IMSA’s 50th anniversary season.

Running the livery at the Daytona 24 Hours is especially appropriate as Brumos won the endurance event on four occasions – every time with Porsche. And Brumos’s success wasn’t confined to the Florida event as, in total, it took 48 IMSA victories and 15 IMSA championships.

Closer inspection of the colours reveal also that the stripes are made up of a grid of the number 59, the racing number most closely associated with Brumos including being the number of its first two Daytona 24 Hour winners.

This is the fourth retro livery Porsche has produced recently, with it following on from the ‘Pink Pig’ and Rothmans livered Porsches which finished first and second in the LMGTE Pro class in last year’s Le Mans 24 Hours – which were based on the 1971 Porsche 917/20 and the 1980s Group C prototypes respectively.

Plus at the end of last season the factory programme closed the IMSA season with a GTLM class victory at the Petit Le Mans in Mobil 1 Porsche GT1-98 colours from 1998. The Brumos colours on the 911s will also be run in the 12 Hours of Sebring, taking place on March 16.
