Ahvenisto

Ahvenisto Race Circuit is an overly tight 1.764-mile purpose-built race track with a figure-of-eight crossover and little in the way of run-off. It was built on the sight of a former sand quarry amid undulating pine woodland. Construction was completed on 15 July 1967 and its only international race of note was held that September. Promoter Curt Lincoln attracted a small but select Formula 2 field for two races in Finland with the Finnish F2 Grand Prix at Keimola followed by Ahvenisto on the following Tuesday. Passing was difficult but Lincoln’s son-in-law Jochen Rindt passed Jim Clark’s Lotus to beat a six-car field that included four F1 World Champions. It held a round of the European Rallycross Championship during the 1980s and 1990s and a modified mixed surface configuration.
