This two-mile 40,000-capacity oval opened on 9 November 1909 with a “clay, sand and gravel with asphalt binder” track surface. Intended to be an early rival for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the AAA organised a series of races at the Atlanta Motordrome in May 1910, but it closed after just one poorly supported season. The land was eventually sold in 1925 to build the town’s municipal airport.
