Four years after the 2006 A1GP debacle, international single seaters returned to Beijing and another temporary venue called the International Street Circuit for the football based Superleague Formula. The circuit around the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park that had been used for the 2008 games proved to be another organisationally challenged one-off. The races only went ahead after threatened drivers’ strikes – due to a pay dispute with the promoter and the safety of the Turn 13/14 chicane following Andy Soucek’s qualifying accident – were averted. The Super Final race that decided the weekend’s overall winner and prizemoney was cancelled due to fading light.
