Bulawayo

Breedon Everard Raceway replaced Kumalo as Bulawayo’s leading circuit and home of the Rhodesian Grand Prix when it opened in December 1969. It held the race four times with Dave Charlton and John Love scoring two wins apiece. Charlton drove his newly-acquired ex-works McLaren M23-Ford to victory in 1974 Bulawayo 100 on the last occasion that the South African F1 Championship visited in 1974. The purpose built facility featured wide open corners and ample run-off areas. The northern loop was bypassed in 1975 which reduced its length to 2.161 miles. The Bulawayo Motoring Club continues to operate the circuit at the time of writing. Henry Breedon Everard was a railway engineer who became acting President of Rhodesia on three occasions during the late-1970s.
