Burlington's Tri-State Fair Grounds is believed to have held the first motor race in Iowa although it had a short-lived history. Bob Burman's Peugeot won that inaugural AAA-sanctioned event on 9 July 1915, just a month before the Des Moines board track opened. Top class racing did not return to Burlington.
