Cascais

The seaside resort of Cascais held the non-championship Portuguese Grand Prix on three occasions during the 1960s on a temporary street circuit by the Atlantic Ocean. The track included the narrow St Marta Bridge on which overtaking was forbidden. Chris Kerrison’s Ferrari 250GTO beat a local field in 1964 before the race switched to F3 rules for the next two editions. A spectator was killed during the 1966 race when Paul Deetens crashed in what was the last time the street circuit was used. Cascais is six miles south of Estoril’s Autódromo Fernanda Pires da Silva that held the race from 1984-96.
