This modern racing facility was opened to the east of central Curitiba in 1967. It fell into disuse after just four years amid internal machinations within the local Automobile Club of Parana. It finally reopened for national and South American series in 1988 with a long main straight and banked final corner. Curitiba held the first round of the two-race international GT series held in 1996 which was won by Nelson Piquet and Johnny Cecotto’s Bigazzi McLaren F1 GTR-BMW. A round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport in 2006 was cancelled but the World Touring Car Championship visited from 2006-12. By that time property developers were interested in the land and a sale announced in 2016 fell through. Racing continued for another five seasons before it finally closed at the end of 2021 to make way for housing and retail park.
