Donnybrook Park Raceway opened in April 1974, over two years after ground was first broken due to delays in FIA certification. Graham Hill advised on the original track design on flat land east of central Harare. Ian Scheckter’s Lotus 72E-Ford won that year’s Rhodesian Grand prix by four laps after champion-elect Dave Charlton spun. The race had been downgraded to Formula Atlantic by the time Donnybrook held the next running in 1976 and it continued to hold the renamed Zimbabwean GP during the 1980s. The circuit remains active today for local club events and drag races.
