The state-of-the-art Dubai Autodrome was well received when it opened in October 2004. Built at a cost of £52m, the Clive Bowen-designed facility mixes fast, sweeping bends with hairpins and technical sections. There is eight meters in elevation change with Turn 1 designed to resemble Brands Hatch’s Paddock Hill Bend. The opening meeting was a European Touring Car and FIA GT Championship double-header. It held a round of GP2’s short-lived Asian series for two years but the Dubai 24 hours is now the international highlight.
