El Pinar

Situated 20 miles east of Montevideo, the purpose-built autodrome at El Pinar opened on 14 October 1956 with Juan Manuel Fangio in attendance. A 6-hour endurance race was an annual highlight from 1957 and it became Uruguay’s leading track following the decline of the Autódromo de Punta Fría in Piriápolis. Uruguary’s national racing association (Asociación Uruguaya de Volantes), it was extended in 2023 to hold a round of the touring car TCR World Tour which was repeated in 2024. The southern most corner was named in honour of Uruguay’s most famous racing driver Gonzalo Rodríguez in 1999 ten years after his death at Laguna Seca.
