Denver Beach at Galveston, Texas first held car races in 1900 as the community recovered from a damaging hurricane. That was on a temporary beach layout with both 2.5 and five-mile configurations listed. The AAA sanctioned races here in 1913 and 1914 as part of the Galveston Cotton Festival which were later included as part of the retrospective National Championship.
