Frank Dery jr’s Golden Gate Speedway was a 0.333-mile dirt oval in the northeastern suburbs of Tampa, Florida. Opened in May 1962, it held round two of the 1963 NASCAR Grand National Championship on 11 November 1962, when 25-year-old Richard Petty shaded team-mate Jim Paschal by a car’s length. NASCAR did not return to Tampa, but Dery ran the speedway for 17 years before selling up. It closed in 1984 with the land now used as a street market.
