The second permanent racing circuit to be built in China (after Zhuhai) is tight and twisty Goldenport Motor Park near Beijing’s international airport. At less than 1.5 miles long it is most suited to national championships although it was twice a late replacement for international series. It was designed by Australian Michael McDonough and opened in December 2001 with off-track course, fishing lake and car showrooms added later. Aston Martin dominated in the rain when it replaced the cancelled Curitiba round of the 2011 GT1 World Championship. It was added to the 2014 World Touring Car Championship when logistical issues made the scheduled round at Sears Point impossible to hold. Even then, the meeting at Goldenport was condensed into two days when a customs strike in Argentina delayed freight from Río Hondo.
