Gransden Lodge

Gransden Lodge was only used for two years but it holds a unique place in British motor racing history. The Cambridge University Automobile Club organised the first post-war race meeting to be held in the country on 15 June 1946 on two runways and the eastern perimeter road of this World War II airfield. The CUAC organised 11 short races on that wet Saturday with Reg Parnell (Maserati 4CL) beating George Abecassis’s Alta in the main event. A second and final meeting on 13 July 1947 used the western perimeter road and included the first 500cc Formula 3 race to be staged.
