Hamburg Fairgrounds in upstate New York included a half-mile dirt oval that first opened for AAA sanctioned events in 1946. It held round five of the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series three years later, when a capacity crowd of 11,733 saw Jack White’s Lincoln inherit victory when Glenn Dunnaway’s Oldsmobile lost a wheel. NASCAR returned for a second and final time on 27 August 1950 when Dick Linder recovered from a spin to win and claim $1,500 in prize money. The speedway then hosted local stock car events until it closed in 1997.
