Hayloft Speedway

H.

H.G. Carmichael built a half-mile dirt oval 12 miles west of downtown Augusta which opened on 29 March 1948. Just 14 cars started when Hayloft Speedway held a NASCAR Grand National event for the only time on 1 June 1952. Rain showers caused several interruptions and Gober Sosebee’s Chrysler was leading when the race to be abandoned after 154 of the scheduled 200 laps. The scorers were unable to publish race times such was the truncated nature of the race.
