The government in India’s Telangana region agreed a four-year deal for Hyderabad to hold the country’s first Formula E race from the 2022/23 season. The circuit on the banks of the Hussain Sagar Lake which ran through Lumbini Park and NTR Gardens was described by António Félix da Costa as “one of the most fun tracks we’ve had to drive”. Jean-Éric Vergne held on to win an excellent inaugural race but the venue was criticised for construction delays and poor facilities, despite permanent pit garages. Furthermore, there was a change in local government with the incoming party less supportive of the event, so the second edition was cancelled with Formula E citing breach of contract.
