This small airport adjacent to the San Juan Bay in Puerto Rico was built by the United States Navy in 1929 and served as the country’s main international airport for 25 years. It is named after an airman who was killed during American air strikes on Libya in 1986. A ten-turn course on the runways and taxiways of Isla Grande was venue for the final round of the 2003 Trans-Am Series, which was won by local driver Willy Castro in a Jaguar XKR. The 2004 race was cancelled just a month before it was due to be held.
