Lakeview Speedway

Lakeview Speedway was a 0.

Lakeview Speedway was a 0.75-mile dirt oval that was built around Lake Cochran, 9 miles northwest of Mobile, Alabama, in 1948. Fonty Flock was the promoter when NASCAR was due to visit on 18 March 1951. Rain forced the race to be postponed to 8 April, with qualifying cancelled due to storms so starting positions were drawn by lot. That race proved to be a family affair for Tim Flock prevailed on the muddy and potholed track, with older brother Fonty second. The circus returned for the final race of the year when “Frank Mundy” (AKA Francisco Menendez) led throughout, while Herb Thomas clinched the title for the first time despite retiring after 40 laps. Bob Flock broke his neck when he rolled Ted Chester’s Oldsmobile.
