The 2007 Champ Car World Series opened with a new race on the streets of downtown Las Vegas. The pits and startline was on Grand Central Parkway before it passed beneath a railway and wound around the Freemont Street Experience. Severe kerbs on Ogden Avenue chicane which launched the cars into the air at 140mph were eased on Friday night and the circuit proved popular with the drivers but the estimated 40,000 crowd was disappointing. Will Power converted a dominant pole position into his first Champ Car victory in a crash-strewn race, which was not repeated.
