A half-mile dirt oval had operated at Lincoln City Fairgrounds in Nebraska from 1915 to 1934 with a midget race reported in 1919. It was sanctioned by the recently formed NASCAR in 1949 and staged the only senior Grand National race held so far in the state in 1953. That was a one-off, but it was memorable for Dick Rathmann overtook Herb Thomas on the final lap to snatch the $1,000 victory prize by just 6ft. The track remains active at the time of writing with a 3/8-mile configuration.
