A one-mile horse track opened at Shreveport’s Louisiana Fairgrounds in 1870 where Barney Oldfield won the first car race held here in 1910.

A one-mile horse track opened at Shreveport’s Louisiana Fairgrounds in 1870 where Barney Oldfield won the first car race held here in 1910. A half-mile dirt track was built in 1938, which hosted the NASCAR Grand National series for the only time in 1953. The track was paved in 1969 but closed in 1980.
