The IndyCar series announced that the city of Markham would replace nearby Toronto as host the championship’s Canadian race for the next five years on 3 September 2025. Tony Cotman of NZR Consulting designed a 2.187-mile downtown street circuit that in featured “a double-sided pit lane, thrilling straightaways and technically challenging sectors” according to the series. Construction delays forced the inaugural 2026 event to be compressed into two days.
