A motorcycle circuit since 1928, the small town of Mettet held Formula 2 races in 1950 and 1951. The temporary layout to the south of the town was almost a figure-of-eight that included a semi-banked turn and St-Donat intersection where competitors arrived from both directions. Alberto Ascari’s Ferrari dominated in 1950 until his rear axle failed during the second heat which handed victory on aggregate to Robert Manzon and Gordini. Manzon repeated that success in 1951 in a rare 1-2-3 for the marque. Motorcycle racing only ceased in 2005, with the permanent Circuit Jules Tacheny opened nearby in 2010. It held a round of the World Rallycross Championship from 2014-18.
