The one-mile dirt oval at Michigan State Fairgrounds was built in 1899 and staged car races nine years later. The newly formed International Motor Contest Association held its inaugural event here on 30 May 1915, and the AAA National Championship (now IndyCar series) visited from 1928 to 1957. The speedway held NASCAR Grand National rounds in 1951 and 1952. It closed in 2001 and now forms the car park for the fairgrounds.
