Oran Park

The fast and undulating Oran Park was opened in February 1962 to the south of Sydney, New South Wales. It had excellent spectator viewing and drew big crowds despite the lack of major races during that decade. That changed in 1974 when the track was refurbished with an extended layout and flyover to host the Formula 5000 Australian Grand Prix. Max Stewart inherited victory on that occasion for two quicker cars retired in the closing stages. Engine failure had denied Warwick Brown in 1974, but he won the race when it returned three years later. It held a round of the Australian Touring Car Championship from 1971-2008 when it was sold to the state government and the track closed in 2010 to make way for a housing development.
