Opened on 18 May 1950 as a half-mile dirt oval, Oxford Plains Speedway had been shortened to 3/8 of a mile by the time NASCAR's senior series visited during the late-1960s. Its 14,000 capacity made Oxford Plains the largest sporting facility in Maine. Ownership changed in in 2012 and the direction of racing has recently been changed to anticlockwise. The Oxford 250 for late model stock cars is the annual highlight today.
