Scene of the first event to carry the title “Grand Prix” in 1901 and a round-the-houses race since 1933, Pau has held the French GP on one occasion. That was in 1930 when a clockwise 10-mile road course was chosen. This proved to be Philippe Etancelin’s finest day for he held off the challenge of Tim Birkin’s large Bentley to win for Bugatti. The circuit included a level crossing shortly after the start and gentle elevation change.
