The picturesque seaside resort of Punta del Este held the third-ever Formula E race in 2014 on the streets adjacent to the city’s Playa Brava. The layout was faster than was normal for the all-electric series at the time with a couple of fast sweeps. Straight-lining chicanes as much as possible was crucial to achieving lap time. The Sand blown onto the track was an issue that caused many a mishap and poorly secured kerbing damaged Matt Brabham’s Andretti Autosport entry during practice for the inaugural race. Sébastien Buemi withstood Jean-Éric Vergne’s pressure that year and repeated his success in 2015. Financial issues caused the race to be dropped from the Season 3 calendar although it made a one-off return in 2018 when the scheduled round in São Paulo was cancelled.
