Tamiami Park

Prior to opening the Homestead oval, promoter Ralph Sanchez had attempted to establish Champ Car racing in Miami was on a temporary road course laid out in the suburban Tamiami Park. It had none of the character of the spring IMSA race downtown and floundered after just four years. The 1986 Marlboro Challenge, however, was a titanic duel between Al Unser jr and Michael Andretti, who won after Unser crashed while trying to pass on the penultimate lap of the non-championship race.
