Tokyo was among the first cities contacted when Formula E founders Alejandro Agag and Alberto Longo developed plans for the all-electric single-seater championship's inaugural season. There were meetings with city officials as long ago as 2013 but it was 30 March 2024 when the Tokyo ePrix became reality on a temporary circuit around the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition centre.
