Originally opened in 1939, the Tucson Rodeo Grounds held a round of the NASCAR Grand National series in 1955. Danny Letner's year-old Oldsmobile took victory when Allen Atkins made a late “splash-and-dash” fuel stop with two laps from the finish. However, that event proved a one-off and the half-mile dirt oval did not host car races thereafter.
