Westmead

Westmead was a fixture on the local racing scene during the early-1960s and part of the Springbok series that featured some of F1’s greatest stars. The track surface broke up badly before the 1961 Natal Grand Prix and promising ex-motorcyclist Gary Hocking was killed during practice for the 1962 race, just eight days before he was due to make his championship début. Jim Clark dominated the 1961 race and came from the back (after retiring from his heat) to finish second behind his Lotus team-mate in 1962. The land is now an industrial estate although surrounding roads such as Moss, Clark and Hocking are a nod to those who raced there.
