The provincial capital of Hubei, Wuhan is an industrial city on the banks of the Yangtze River that is the centre of the car industry in China. However, it has been best known outside that country in recent years as the centre of the Covid-19 outbreak that paralysed the world in 2020. The Chinese Touring Car Championship had raced on a tight and narrow street circuit around the city’s sports complex in 2017. Former World Touring Car Champion Rob Huff won race one from pole position. The circuit was extended a year later when Wuhan was included in the inaugural WTCR calendar with a southern link road from the stadium to the public thoroughfare. The Chinese Endurance Championship for GT cars was the main event in 2019 before matters elsewhere in the city stopped racing for the time being.
