Giorgio Bassi raced in the Mille Miglia as early as 1955 but competed rarely in international races over the next 10 years. A Formula 3 regular during the 1960s, his De Tomaso was third at Monza at the end of 1964.
His last appearance in the World Sportscar Championship was the 1965 Targa Florio when he shared the 18th-placed Scuderia Sant Ambroeus ASA RB613 with Giorgio Pianta. He also drove in his only Grand Prix at Monza that year when a late replacement for Bob Bondurant in Scuderia Centro Sud’s old BRM P57. He qualified 22nd and ran at the back for eight laps before retiring from the race.
