Alpine was rebranded from Renault for the start of the 2021 season, promoting Renault’s sportscar brand and building on the Enstone squad’s racing heritage.
Fernando Alonso returned alongside Esteban Ocon, who claimed a sensational victory at the chaotic 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix, Alpine’s first win in its new guise. Alonso also earned a podium in Qatar as the team finished fifth in the constructors’ championship.
2022 marked further progress, with Alonso and Ocon scoring consistently to lift Alpine to fourth overall – its highest finish since the rebrand.
However, the summer saw Alonso announce a switch to Aston Martin for 2023, sparking a driver-market controversy when Oscar Piastri, initially promoted as Alpine’s new driver, instead signed for McLaren.
Alpine brought in Pierre Gasly, forming an all-French line-up with Ocon. The team finished a distant sixth in 2023, amid turbulent management changes and strategic missteps.
In 2024, Alpine continued to deliver occasional flashes of competitiveness, including surprise double podiums in Brazil, and sixth in the standings after a slow start turned around late in the season.
The Enstone-based outfit cycled through a series of team bosses: Otmar Szafnauer, Bruno Famin, Oliver Oakes, and most recently Flavio Briatore and Steve Nielsen guiding the team’s restructuring ahead of Formula 1’s new era in 2026, when it will be powered by Mercedes engines.
