On track with Porsche Club GB at Brands Hatch

Car Culture

At one end of the pitlane, a truck fresh from the Channel Tunnel is unloading its secretive cargo: the 919 Evo. Because Nick Tandy, winner of Le Mans in 2015 when it was still in its race-going guise, will tackle the Brands Hatch Indy circuit as part of the Porsche Festival.

They’re not going to chase the record – 38.032sec set by Scott Mansell in Euro Boss in 2004 – but he’ll come agonisingly close on the Sunday. Despite being on the wrong tyres. And not being properly set-up. So fast is the Evo that even its demo pace is almost unrivalled…

The rest of the pitlane at Brands Hatch is hosting many of the UK’s Porsche enthusiasts, in Kent for one of the Porsche Club of Great Britain’s track days. One owner drove all the way from Cornwall to get there for 8am and spend all day hammering around.

All manner of stunning Stuttgart product was on track throughout the day, from the latest 911 GT3 to even a Cayenne, via 944s and much more in between.

And we joined them on the day to capture it on film, and to find out why their track days are so popular with owners.

Don’t forget, you can get on track yourself with us at Thruxton next month. Find out more.
