Dale Earnhardt Jr’s 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo NASCAR Cup car, soon to be auctioned by Barrett-Jackson

Dale Earnhardt Jr’s Chevrolet Monte Carlo NASCAR Cup (then Winston Cup) car is being offered by Barrett-Jackson at its Palm Beach auction on April 12-15. Earnhardt raced the car at Sonoma in 2001 for a 19th place finish while Tony Stewart took victory.

This car isn’t just an empty shell, and it comes complete with the GM Small Block V8 powerplant which produced over 750 horsepower at the time through a four-speed transmission. That engine, which made its debut in 1998, was the first purpose-built NASCAR engine in over four decades of competition.

The car, in Earnhardt’s no8 livery, (which he used at his final race at Homestead in November 2017) was displayed at the team offices of Dale Earnhardt Inc before being sold off to a private collector. DEI struggled financially in the late 2000s and became Earnhardt Ganassi Racing and is now known as Chip Ganassi Racing
