Jenson Button to race in 2019 Baja 1000

The 2009 Formula 1 champion Jenson Button will race in the Baja 1000 on November 19-24 in the United States as he makes his off-road competition debut.

He will race an 850 horsepower Brenthel Industries Truck in the Spec 6100 TT category – for trucks that weigh less than 5000 lbs (2267kg).

That's the second-highest spec of racing in the Baja 1000, with the top-tier reserved for unlimited trophy trucks that are mainly unrestricted.

Le Mans 24 Hours LMP2 class winner Chris Buncombe will partner Button as will another driver, Mazen Fawaz.

The race takes place in Mexico down the Californian peninsula.

Next month he will also race in the Mint 400 to practice for the Baja 1000. The Mint 400 takes place around Las Vegas from March 6-10.
