Your October ‘Parting Shot’ of John Surtees and Ludovico Scarfiotti climbing aboard their Ferraris at the 1963 Nürburgring 1000km is one of the reasons not to miss one issue of your magazine! But who is that standing behind Ferrari No110 at the left-hand side of the photographer with the green hat? John Surtees’ co-driver, and therefore co-winner of the event, Willy Mairesse. Like team-mates Mike Parkes and Scarfiotti, of course, he has passed away.
It is a remarkable coincidence that all four — Surtees, Scarfiotti, Parkes and Mairesse — all stood on the podium of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
Please continue this kind of ‘Parting Shot’.
