McRae’s first decent attempt at a video biography passes off well, but without major incident.
His rise from Lanark schoolbuy to superstar is fascinating, although the hardened fan might have been better served with more early-career action than yet another of the jet-ski compilations that’s the staple diet of ‘new rally’ coverage.
Still, most of the main incidents are dealt with in a frank, concise manner, with all of the major players present: family, co-drivers, team bosses etc.
The man’s story is interspersed with driving tips filmed specially for the occasion, but this is ultimately less interesting than the sheer spectacle of him in full flight: proof, perhaps, that the finest talents are beyond explanation. JM
