The Rochdale Olympic

Sir,

I suppose “ours” is one of the few journals not to have featured correspondence on the pros and cons of the current Olympics. With your permission I would like to rectify this situation to some extent by referring to some older Olympics — Rochdale Olympics to be precise.

I have recently fulfilled a schoolboy ambition by piecing together a collection of Motor Sport back to 1952. Thumbing through the 1960s issues I was intrigued to find reference to a sophisticated and attractive British kit car — the aforementioned Olympic. I understand that the car had a rosy future at one time until a fire at the factory destroyed most of the bodyshells and jigs. I believe the car was produced from 1960 until 1965(?)

I am now keen to discover more about this fascinating car and I hope that this letter may prompt some correspondence on the delights (or otherwise) of Olympic ownership. Also if any reader possesses indexed contemporary British car magazines and can identify for me the dates of relevant articles on the Olympic I thould be very pleased to hear from them.

Thank you for an excellent magazine.
