Compulsory Belt-Up

Speaking at a recent Road Safety Conference in London, Congressman Schuster said that while he was all in favour of seat harness he was not prepared to see legislation introduced to make it compulsory. That, he said, was “an unacceptable intrusion of personal freedom”. He backed this view by remarking that he had yet to see evidence that not wearing a seat belt had ever injured anyone but the person taking the decision.
