Monza

At Monza on March 26th two two-hour races with starts on Le Mans lines were held, one for closed or convertible cars conforming to the new International touring-car regulations and the other for sports cars, which also had to have closed or drophead bodies. Bordoni’s  1½-litre Maserati—fancy a touring Maserati!—covered greatest distance of 32 starters in the first race, averaging 79.3 m.p.h. In the sports-car event, Lance Macklin led for some time in the new production-model 2½-litre six-cylinder Lagonda-engined Aston-Martin, but finally finished second in his class to Sanesi, whose Alfa-Romeo went about 12 miles further. After the race there was a concours d’élégance for those cars which finished the course, and this the saloon Aston-Martin won.
