BRDC Gold Star

Points as of September 21, 2009

1. Jenson Button Formula 1 225pts

2. Ryan Briscoe IRL/Grand-Am 198pts
Both Briscoe and Dario Franchitti have one IRL race remaining before the October 31 cut-off date for the Gold Star, which would provide either of them with a maximum of 21 points, leaving Jenson Button untouchable in first place. However, they could always take in the Miami Grand-Am race that same weekend, which would give them another points-scoring opportunity. We suspect though that they are too focused on the battle for the IRL championship for that…

3. Dario Franchitti IRL/Grand-Am 189pts

4. Adam Carroll A1GP 174pts

5. David Brabham ALMS/Le Mans 154pts

6. Rob Huff WTCC 148pts
Neither Huff nor Andy Priaulx will be able to add to their Gold Star points now as the remaining four WTCC races (Japan and Macau) take place in November.

7. Andy Priaulx WTCC 146pts

8. Mark Webber Formula 1 138pts
Even though he is down in eighth, Webber is the only man with a chance of overhauling Jenson Button at the top of the standings. There are still three Formula 1 races before October 31, and therefore a maximum available score of 81 points (3 x 27 – F1 carries more weight than the IRL).

9. Alexander Sims F3 117pts
Sims is a new entry this month after some great races in the F3 Euro Series. He has also been competing in International Formula Master and the Radical European Masters Series races at Silverstone, where he blitzed all the regulars with two dominant wins. Neither of these categories are eligible for BRDC Gold Star points, but there are four more F3 Euro Series races which will count.

10. Richard Westbrook Porsche SC/FIA GT2 115pts
