VSCC at play in Weybridge

The Vintage Sports Car Club took its winter driving-tests to Brooklands on January 13; rather early in the year, weather-wise for such frolics, you might think. Then think again. The tests for the Monte Carlo Rally used to be practised there before the war, and the JCC held its DTs at the track in February, experiencing snow on one occasion. Anyway, 80 entries were received by the VSCC, proving...

Fine at Colerne

It was fine for this year's VSCC Colerne speed-trials on April 20, whereas last year the rain was so heavy and continual that it is still remembered. A wet course ruins a sprint event, with fresh records impossible and no chance of seeing whether previous individual times can be improved upon. Fortunately, this time rain confined itself to a shower in the late afternoon, so all went well at what...

Lightweight Welsh vintage

The Light Car & Edwardian Section of the VSCC held another of its traditional two-day Welsh events on April 16/17, based at the Abemant Lake Hotel, Llanwrtyd Wells. Saturday afternoon was devoted to the usual driving-tests in the hotel grounds, but punctuated this time by a road run and tests elsewhere — I heard the one-in-four Devil's Staircase mentioned. Sunday wass devoted to the trial,...

Club Prizes

The Morgan Three-Wheeler Club's AGM weekend went with a swing, with at least 60 Morgans attending at Malvern. The prizes presented did not involve Concours d'Elegance, this club preferring to give them for using Morgans rather than polishing them! This ideal is reflected in an article in its current Bulletin about how to supercharge a Matchless Twin . . . The prize-list is too long to include in...

Vintagery at The Verzons

Vintage-car drivers apparently regard bad weather as a challenge, because more than one hundred pre-war cars turned up on New Year's Day for the annual gathering at The Verzons Hotel near Ledbury, very few who started out turning back, in spite of fog, icy roads and iced-over windscreens. No doubt other VSCC venues had similar support that day, as I hear the Red Lion at Llanfair Waterdine did....

Vintage at the Verzons

So well-supported have the VSCC New Year's Day assemblies at The Verzons Hotel near Ledbury been that the organiser, Mark Garfitt, has instituted a similar Sunday Serendipity there. It was fun in the sun on August 20. The grass verges of the A438 were less lined with visitors' modern cars and the car park was more orderly than on cold winter occasions, but there was much to see and photograph. To...
