A whiff of old Brooklands

The Young Special When a respected monthly motoring contemporary published a picture of Tom Walker's Young Special at the VSCC Donington Park race meeting last year it bore a caption suggesting that this car has "the double disadvantage of having a Frazer Nash chassis and a one-off engine which was built for Brooklands but never even got off the line there." This caused me to raise an eyebrow (in...

Fine at Colerne

It was fine for this year's VSCC Colerne speed-trials on April 20, whereas last year the rain was so heavy and continual that it is still remembered. A wet course ruins a sprint event, with fresh records impossible and no chance of seeing whether previous individual times can be improved upon. Vintage Prescott

On July 28 that looked-forward-to VSCC hill climb meeting took place, sponsored by Brooks, using the 880-yard short course. The general concensus on May 26, the day of the vintage Loton Park speed hill-climb, was what a pleasant venue this is — informal, picturesque, an interesting 1478 yard course, and the event run with VSCC efficiency. The rights belong to the Hagley & DMC, which runs its own meetings there several times in a season, for other than vintage cars. The place was in great heart for the annual...

VSCC at Loton Park

Loton Park hill-climb has much in its favour. The course is 1478 yards long, with six interesting bends joined by long straights, one of which is downhill. The venue is Sir Michael Leighton's estate near Shrewsbury, the grass Paddock and carparks redolent of the carefree speed trials of pre-war times. The preserve of the Hagley & D L C C, the Vintage SCC is now very much at home there. Their...
