Having lost the use of Oulton Park and Cadwell Park from its regular calendar of race meetings, the VSCC has sought to fill the voids and maintain its programme of six race events by using Pembrey and, for the first time, travelling to the continent in the tracks of the HSCC and 750 Motor Club, hosting a meeting at the twisty, 1.19-mile circuit at Coix-en-Ternois, close to Arras in north-eastern...

THE HON. PATRICK LINDSAY won three of the eight races at a first-class Vintage SCC meeting over Silverstone's Club circuit on April 17th, watched by a considerable crowd of enthusiasts in the chilly sunshine. Some exciting racing and no accidents made it a memorable afternoon's sport, starting with the 40 min. High Speed Trial incorporating a compulsory wheel change. Interesting runners were...

Best-Laid Plans

The Vintage Sports Car Club held its OuIton Park race meeting over the weekend of July 16-17 along with bicycle races, autojumbles, tugs-of-war, concours d'elegance and all the fun of a motor fair. There were 255 entries (against 227 last year) plus 28 Morgan three-wheelers racing under ACU rules. The 55th MCC Exeter Classic Trial

The Motor Cycling Club's Exeter Trial had an entry of 295 motorcycles and cars this year, and retained the triple starting-points and night run, torrential rain giving place to a sunny day in Devon, on January 7th / 8th. The observed-sections were centred around Exeter and I used the Alfa Romeo Six, comfortable, with a good map-light and fuel-range, for reporting on some of them. After three...

Easy Does It

Fine if cold weather, a large attendance and an entry of 232 cars on April 23 made the first Vintage Sports Car Club race meeting of 1988 a memorable one. Two intended attractions at Silverstone were the Bugatti Royale and “Babs”, the 27-litre aero-engined Parry Thomas car due to race for the first time since 1926 when it lapped Brooklands at 125.77 mph. However, “Babs” suffered a con-rod...

Hannen fodder

The traditional June Silverstone VSCC meeting was the penultimate event to be held on the old club circuit, prior to the various F1-instigated revisions, and featured an all-ERA (or ERA-engined) race to commemorate the Bourne marques 60th anniversary. The opening event, for the Bill Phillips Trophy proved some consolation for Martin Stretton. Having suffered an engine failure at the wheel of...

Rolls-Royce and the 8-litre Bentley

It is well known that in 1930 Rolls-Royce was alarmed at the performance and appeal of WO Bentley's fine 8-litre model, which was in direct competition with its Phantom II Rolls-Royce. This was overcome by buying the financially ailing Bentley Motors in a carefully disguised deal, and later on by refusing to let WO use his name on a Lagonda he had designed. The closure of the old Bentley Motors...

Two days of VSCC at Oulton Park

Again this year the one-time one-day VSCC Meeting at the pleasant OuIton Park circuit was spreading over two days, a feast of motor racing, bicycle racing, beauty parade and auto-jumbling, attractive to participants but rather tough on spectators; it involved this scribe in 415 miles' motoring, for instance... However, it enabled 14 races to be held, in cold, damp conditions on the Saturday, in...
